Are you guilty of Facebook Overkill?

Written by Lisa on November 27, 2009 – 12:13 pm -

Many now are using Facebook for a business networking platform, (yes I understand it can be great for personal connections to).   However a trap is becoming very obvious to me and many of facebook are guilty of this very Facebook sin.

The type of user this is directed at is the user pushing out so much content that others do not get to push their information in between.  There content is coming so fast you see nearly a whole page of their status and feeds.  This is the perfect example of someone that will have their facebook feed hidden or worse taken off a list.  The arguement is on the other side its a good way to see who really wants to listen to you, it also gives you leverage.  I disagree in  life variety is good.  Business and your audience is not all about one dimension of content or information.  If you do this you could be classed as giving information over load.  I call it a sin as its not strategy savatarging your presence and your authority, it undoes your hard work in Social Media.  It is not strategy making people sick and tired of hearing you.

Overkill is happening, their is a way to ensure your not guilty and your feed is not taken off their home page.  There are steps to ensure you do not look like the kid that is starving for attention.  I watch this often even with great people.  I know what the person is trying to achieve like all business on Facebook traffic, exposure, presence or leadership in niche.  However this is what happens.

  • Your feed is hidden
  • Your unfollowed as over bearing
  • Your audience stops communication and conversing on your stream
  • You are no longer getting paid attention to at ALL.

On Facebook the importance is on your Status and your feed whether it be a page or profile.  In business strategy its an important core of your Social Media presence.  With strategy its important to note to keep your audience intrigued or entertained.  However not the most important strategy to engage your audience.

A  quality with presence and respect I am sure is everyone’s aim.  Whether you be a leader or follower building a relationship must be the core focus.  Getting trust and building on this trust must be the core focus in any Social Media Strategy.  To do this is quite simple.  You add value where you can add something to a conversation.  You can comment and get to know your followers paving the way to further communications and everyone knowing who you are.  Giving others attention, giving others credit is part of being good at facebook.  When I watch those who use facebook effectively, they communicate, they comment, they answer and they follow up.  They watch others that provide value and add to the value if they can.  This strategy is noticed.

That is when you get friends that see your Contribution then wish to know you more as they liked what you said, so not only do you contribute you build your relationships and get more.

Real World teaches us how to find the Right Experts

Written by Lisa on November 24, 2009 – 11:13 am -

This statement confuses me, “how do I know this person is an expert”?

Let us go to an example in the real world.  Now let us say you have moved to a new town or city.  You know no one.  You brought a home; the electric has needed to be fixed you know no one.  Therefore, you go about finding an Electrician.  When you know no one, you can only go by a few ways.  They will have trade qualifications, perhaps a country authority for those that have finished a membership that states they have a high standard.  You could have talked with a group of people in a local club and asked around there, those that have been in the community for a while understand who is good and reliable.  Therefore, those two ways are reliable.  Then if you are not happy with the job, in the real world there are ways to get justice.

The Internet may be connected through a computer, however when we are looking for a particular expert we have even more information available to us.  Maybe what we all need is a deeper understanding on how to get better answers.  Let us say we want a SEO expert for our Website.  Now there are a few ways to see if they are really experts as they say.  Just like the Real world, we can look to those that have the qualifications.  We can also ask around marketing groups, networks to see whom they use.  Not only does it stop there, we can ask to see a snippet of their work so we can prove for ourselves that they can do the job.

This is why I am confused!  Every answer, we can research deeply.  Have we put ourselves into a gullible situation and merely need information?

Next time you require an Expert in a field follow these Simple Tips:

  • Research Their Name on Search engines
  • Ask groups of respected business persons who they recommend
  • Ask to see proof of their work.
  • Then compare!
  • Look at their person work done for themselves.

Yes, you can still shop around and get best value for money and least time spent doing your work required.  However Just like the real world, sometimes you have to spend a little more to get the best quality.

Skype, Why I use it!

Written by Lisa on October 11, 2009 – 9:15 pm -

Now if you have not seen the Messenger service called skype, you could be forgiven if your new to Marketing and Online Communications.

I am delighted what Skype Provides me. I live in New Zealand, we do not have the wonderful phone rates around the world unless we use VIOP. We can get the cards that give us cheap minute rates and ring at set times or do a deal but they really stink.

Even if you have lots of money, who wants to spend it all on the Telephone. For me Broadband was the best thing made for the internet, as now I can type chat or talk to those in any country at a time convenient for us both.

The download was simple, goes into a file of your choice. You set your account up. One suggestion I make is never share your password and never use it with no Anti-virus, adaware & spyware protector. There are security breaches, so use it just for minor or one on one conversations. When you get to about 4 people on a line, I note the quality drops back so not idea for conferencing for my area.

Once I have made an account, then I give people my user name and they can find me on the network. It means if your in America and I am in NZ we have NO TOLLS (which is international calling what its called here).

I do use gmail which has the messenger and VIOP but not as widely used yet, however I find it at a par some days however if the weather is bad skype is the best.

I recommend skype for keeping in touch with family too, if you both have computers its a great way to see each other via webcam which to me is a bit better than telephone.

All in all, its a great tool to have as part of your Computer usage, you will find only those that endorse other products will not have it. There are literally millions & millions of users and easy to get going.
